Dear Parents,

Can you believe we are already finished with the first month of school? We have been extremely busy getting to know each other and getting to know the rules of 4th grade. Please make sure you sign your child’s notebook every night. Signing the assignment notebook helps me keep in touch with you on a daily basis.

In my math class, we have covered place value to the billions place. We have learned rounding and estimating. We have even started with addition and subtraction review. Please start studying those multiplication facts.

In English Language Arts, we are learning how to write complete sentences and the types of sentences. We are also starting to learn how to write essays instead of "stories". We have finished our first writing piece called "New Beginnings in Fourth Grade". These came out fantastic. We have also written our first letter for the box tops contest. We have even started our second essay called "My Dream Vacation".

In Spanish, we are learning the numbers and letters. The kids are really enjoying this and are already amazed by how much they know. It is something fun for them to learn.

In Science, we have started our Animal unit. We have broken up the animal unit into 5 topics (mammals, fish, birds, amphibians, and reptiles). We will be dissecting owl pellets in November. Look forward to those bones coming home!

In Social Studies, we have finished our first unit on maps and globes. We have learned about latitude and longitude lines. We have also talked about New York’s global address, hemispheres, the prime meridian, and the equator. We have started chapter two on the Native Americans. This will coincide with our field trip to Brookside Museum next week.

Our homeroom mom this year is Mrs. Asadorian and Mrs. Oliveira is going to be her helper. Thank you for your help so far.

Hope this school year is starting off as great for you as it is for me!

Sincerely,

                                                                                                            Mrs. W
