Second Grade Reading curriculum include:
I n second grade,
children build on the foundation established in the home and first years
of school. Highlights of the language arts reading curriculum include:
Children discover more about "cracking the code," setting themselves
up to be highly skilled and sophisticated decoders.
- They build fluency, reading grade-level texts with appropriate
speed, accuracy, and expression.
- Students expand their background knowledge; their vocabulary grows!
- Comprehension strategies are gained, enabling the children to
understand texts literally and at higher levels of thinking.
- Motivation to read is emphasized, encouraging the youngsters to
develop the desire to be lifelong readers and learners!
