Social Studies

Science
This year we will study maps, globes, and landforms as well as learn about several different countries. We will spend a significant amount of time studying Australia. We will have one major project in social studies and it will be making a brochure all about Australia. We will also study Japan and several other countries before the end of the year.
Students will expand their knowledge of countries outside the U.S. The seven strands of social studies will be incorporated into learning about two countries.
•Seven strands (geography, history, economy, politics, interdependence, culture, technology)
•Map Skills
•Two countries
We are doing group instruction as well as small group and partner work. We will be having a map and landform test in the next few weeks. I will list a date on the agenda board when I know the exact date.
After we complete studying about maps and landforms, we will begin our Country unit with an in depth study of Australia. During this time we will complete a project on Australia. The project is a brochure on Australia that will be completed in the computer lab. Most of the work will be completed in class, however, some may need to go home for extra research or just writing the final product. More information will go home when we actually begin the project.
