Lunch and Recess: 11:14-11:59 (The children will be going out to play everyday before lunch (weather permitting). Please make sure they are dressed appropriately.

Snack: We will be having a daily snack time each morning. Please make sure your child’s snack is nutritious. Suggestions: fruits, cheeses, veggies, pretzels, crackers, non-sugared cereal. Snack is short (10-15 minutes) so please send in something quick and easy to have.

Absences: A note, stating name, date, and reason for absence with your signature should be sent in with your child upon their return to school.

Birthdays: Birthday treats are welcome on your child’s birthday. Please send in something easy to pass out (no cutting required). Napkins would also be helpful.  Please let me know of your plans a few days in advance. Summer birthday can be celebrated in June.

Friday Folders- Student will be bring a Friday Folder home each Friday. The folder will contain corrected assignments and any important information for the coming week (reminders, form, etc.) There will be a newsletter every other week highlighting the classroom.

Binders- Students have a binder in third grade to help stay organized. Each night your child will come home with their binder. It should contain dividers for different subjects with important papers, a take home folder, and anything else they use on a daily basis (book they are reading, literacy journal).

 Homework

Students should complete 30-40 minutes of homework Monday- Thursday nights. Homework should include 15 minutes of reading, studying for spelling, math review/practice, and later in the fall a literacy response 1-2 times a week. Occasionally students will have a social studies or science review. When a test is given, students will have a least 7 days to study and if a project is to be completed at home, students will have 1-3 weeks to complete the project.

Tips:

1.) Provide a spot where school materials (pencils, erasers, crayons, paper, etc.) can stay so students can get their work done without wasting time looking for these things. Materials kept nearby will prevent your child from becoming distracted while retrieving items they need. Putting together a homework "basket" that contains the necessary items can help save time.

2.)Try to establish a regular time for homework. Get into a habit of getting homework done before students become involved in other activities.

3.) Be "around" to help your child but do not provide all answers for them. Guide them to come up with the correct answer. (It helps me if I see them struggling on a certain concept on homework. This lets me know we need to review/reteach, so resist the urge to make sure their papers are perfectly done.)

4.) When homework is finished praise them for getting it done. Remind them that now they can relax and choose what they would like to do for the rest of their night.

Life can get hectic! Please let me know by e-mail/note if there is a reason that your child was unable to complete homework. Thank you!
