Furry Neighbors

The Scotia-Glenville Children's Museum stopped by Mrs. Magendanz's classroom to present the program entitled, Furry Neighbors. The one-hour program illustrated how different winter animals met their basic needs of finding food and shelter and how they escape their predators. The students examined the skins and skulls of many local mammals, such as the red fox, the black bear, opossum, the chipmunk, the beaver, the porcupine, the gray squirrel and others. The program concluded with each child drawing a forest and field scene showing mammal dwellings and placed the different animals in their homes by using animal ink stamps.

They Lived Along the Mohawk

The Scotia-Glenville Children's Museum stopped by Mrs. Magendanz's and Mrs. Britton's Kindergarten classrooms to present the program entitled, They Lived Along the Mohawk. This program is an introduction to the early people of the Mohawk River Valley. Authentic handmade objects were used to illustrate how the Mohawks made use of the earth's resources and the natural cycles of life in order to survive in a harsh environment.

The hour presentation included time for discussion and exploration of the artifacts. The artifacts were grouped as corn and food items, musical instruments, clothing and shelter materials. The session closed with an old Native American legend. The children made a traditional Mohawk headdress or arm band to share with their families.

Our Weekly Schedule:

 Library

Tuesday is our library day! Books may be returned to school any time after the book(s) has/have been read. In order for a new book to be checked out, the previous book(s) must be returned. It’s a great idea to keep your child’s library book in a safe place all the time so you don’t have to worry about lost or damaged books. If your child finishes their book(s) before library day, he/she may return the book(s) to school and get new ones at the library during open book exchange.

Physical Education

Wednesdays are our Physical Education (P.E.) days in the gymnasium with Coach Thompson and Coach Burns. Please send your child into school wearing sneakers and comfortable pants/shorts on every Wednesday. Thank you so much for your help.

Computer Lab

Every other Friday is our Computer Lab day with Mrs. Rao.
