Fourth Grade Tesago musicians will continue to enhance their recorder playing skills. In addition to playing the recorder, students will have the opportunity to study a string instrument and/or sing in the Tesago Chorus. Fourth Grade students will have many opportunities to sing in two part harmony, to accompany their songs with rhythm instruments and recorders, and to learn exciting new games to reinforce music literacy such as Around the World and Mozart's Dice Game. Boys and girls in Fourth Grade will also write their own recorder pieces and compose lyrics to create their own verses to some of the many folk songs we will cover in class. Social Studies lessons will be brought to life through music related to the Iroquois Indians, the Revolutionary War, and the Erie Canal, just to name a few topics. Be prepared for a full Music schedule packed with many cool activities!
Towards the end of the Fourth Grade, students will receive a visit from Mr. Schwartz, Shatekon's Band Director, to invite students to join the Shatekon Fifth Grade Band. Mr. Schwartz will demonstrate all of the available choices of instruments to the students. Students will be able to choose from the following instruments: flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone, French horn, or percussion (drums and unpitched rhythm instruments). Students will receive an information sheet that will cover all of the questions they or their parents may have regarding instrument rental, availability, etc. From this sheet, students will select their top three instrument choices. These choices will allow Mr. Schwartz to plan the best balance of instruments to ensure that Shatekon has an awesome sounding band!
If your child really wants to play in the Shatekon Orchestra, but did not sign up to play during Fourth Grade, do not despair! He/she will be welcome to play during Fifth Grade, but would be placed in lesson groups with Fourth Grade students. Please have your song/daughter see Mrs. Tallman or me for a sign-up form.
