Shenendehowa High School East Auditorium

The Shenendehowa High School Counseling, College and Career Center will be hosting “A Night with Jessica Lahey” on September 5, 2017. Lahey is the author of the New York Times bestselling book, “The Gift of Failure; How the Best Parents Learn to Let Go So Their Children Can Succeed.”

Lahey’s book, “The Gift of Failure” is essential reading for parents and educators. She discusses how over-parenting makes it more difficult for students to learn to deal with disappointments and push through challenges they encounter in school and life.  Lahey focuses on fostering intrinsic motivation and resilience in kids so that they become motivated to own their education, learn deeply and durably and develop resilience. Lahey summarizes the current research on autonomy-supportive parenting and teaching, competence, rewards, praise and failure. She explains how parents and educators can give students the support and encouragement they need to stay motivated over the long term.

Jessica Lahey will be speaking at the High School on 9/5/2017 from 6:30 to 7:30 PM. There will be a 15 minute question and answer session followed by a 30 to 60 minute book signing afterwards. Parents and educators are encouraged to attend and get the 2017/18 school year off to a great start!

Tickets for this event are free of charge but seating will be limited. Tickets will be made available at Shen High School East on Tuesday, July 25from 8:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. in the front lobby.  After that date, the remaining tickets will be available in the HS East Counseling, College, & Career Center during regular summers business hours, and the Clifton Park-Halfmoon Public Library on Moe Road during regular business hours.
