Shenendehowa held a mass evacuation drill at High School West on Sept. 27 in collaboration with the Saratoga County Office of Emergency Services and first responder agencies. For the drill at High School West, district staff and local emergency responders tested the communication and logistical protocols involved with safely relocating students to an established evacuation site in the event of a real emergency. Upon evacuation, High School West students were escorted to an identified secure location (a campus school). At the conclusion of the drill, they returned to High School West to attend the remainder of their classes.
As a school and district, we practice many different types of drills throughout the year hoping to create a culture of preparedness among our students and staff. Drills are an important step in keeping schools safe and secure.
Evacuation drills help students and staff work with local emergency responders to practice and test safety and security procedures outlined in the district’s Emergency Management Plan. The safety and security of our students and staff is a top priority that depends upon everyone knowing what to do if an actual incident occurs. You are encouraged to talk to your child/ren about drills and how they are an important learning experience.
Thank you!
