focus on regrouping.
In our homeroom we are now working on Ch. 6 - 2 digit subtraction with regrouping.
Social Studies News...
During the months of January and February our class will be learning about communities. We will learn about urban, suburban and rural communities and compare their similarities and differences.
Students will learn that citizens work in their communities to earn money to provide for their basic needs and wants. They will also learn that citizens have choices as to what job they will do, whom they will vote for to lead their community and how they may best solve problems when they arise.
We are lucky to once again be participating in the Junior Achievement Program which nicely enhances our unit on communities. Miss Olivia Iannon will be teaching the program to our class during the next couple of weeks. We have now participated in 3 lessons with Miss Iannon and are thankful that she is serving as our volunteer!
Reading and Writing News...
Our focus for reading and writing will be non-fiction. We will be reading to find, learn and compare information. The purpose of our writing will be to use the many features of non-fiction in order to teach our reader about our topic. This unit of study is always a lot of fun for the kids as they hone in on their own interests and expertise, as well as search for answers to their own questions!
