Morning Letter/Homework

Each day your child will be bringing home a morning letter written by me.  On the back of the morning message you will find your child's homework, there are days when your child will receive homework without a morning letter.  On those days we focus on skills outside the morning letter area.  Please have him/her complete it and return it the next morning.  There is no homework on Fridays.  Missed homework assignments due to absences are always left on the desk or in a mailbox.  Please have your child complete the missed assignment and return it to school when he/she is able to. Homework assignments are kept track of and the children are marked in this area on the report card.  This helps them develop a good routine and help to develop and demonstrate organizational skills in first grade.

*Note:  Homework should never take more than ten minutes.  If for some reason it does, please put it away and write me a quick note explaining what happened.

        Daily Snack

We have a daily morning nutrition break. We want to keep to healthy snacks so please avoid potato chips, Doritos, cookies, sugary snacks, etc.  At times we have some children that have forgotten their snack at home and need a snack provided for them.  Unfortunately I don't always have snack for them here.  It is very helpful if occasionally you send extra snacks in to school for the class to have on hand, donations are greatly appreciated.

You may send in water in a water bottle for with your child as well. The children may leave them on their desk and have access to them all day. Please be sure that your child is using A SPORT TOP water bottle and not a twist off cap. As you can probably see I can’t emphasize this enough, there are many unintentional accidents with the twist-offs, they are often not placed back on the bottle the correct way. A sport top is very simple to pull up and push down. Thanks so much for your help in providing nourishing snacks!

Birthdays

You may send in a simple snack to celebrate your child's birthday along with napkins. Cupcakes, brownies, rice crispy treats, cookies, etc. are all fine. Drinks are not necessary; we'll just use our water.  Please let me know at least two days in advance whether or not you will be sending in a treat. I am asking that you do not send invitations for parties to school unless you are inviting the entire class (which I realize is difficult). Children at this age level are very sensitive to being left out and feelings can be spared if birthday correspondence is done through the mail or on the phone. A class list of addresses and phone numbers has been compiled and sent home.  Please contact me if you need another copy.  Summer birthdays will be celebrated in June.
