Here are some tips for helping your child learn the High Frequency Word Lists: 
List 1   List 2   List 3   500 High Frequency Words  

WORD STUDY

           The goal is to develop strategies for remembering or recalling rather than merely learning words.  Help the child to develop a consistent approach to remembering words.

  Prompt the child:

   ·        Look at the word and say it slowly.  Run your finger under

           it.   

·        Close your eyes and “see” it.

·        Now write it.

·        Check it with your finger while saying it slowly.

·        Does it look right?  If it is not correct, repeat the process.

For additional practice:

·        Make the word using magnetic letter.  Jumble and remake   

         it again.

·        Trace the word while saying it slowly.

·        Write the word –Make it fun by using shaving cream, gel

         pens, sidewalk chalk, or the computer!

Play word games:

·        Make a double set of word cards and play “Go Fish” or

         "Concentration".

·        Hangman

·        Boggle Jr.

·        Scrabble Jr.

·        Crosswords

·        Word Scrambles
