Tesago Elementary Third Graders were entertained by Ellen Mnich, while learning about the culture of many countries. Ellen Mnich, a speaker well known for her traveling museum program, “Aunt Helen’s Closet” began the program fifteen years ago when she took her aunt’s sixty years of globetrotting tales and numerous souvenirs and turned them into a traveling trunk showcase.
Aunt Helen becomes more real when students model clothes, hats and jewelry from many countries. Students tried on sombreros, kimonos and various jewelry from every country except two. After the presentation, Ms. Mnich, instructed the students to write an adjective filled story describing a piece of her jewelry. It was a fun, exciting time that allowed both students and adults to share Aunt Helen’s travels.

Ms. Drindak’s 2nd graders brought
their Social Studies lessons of Urban communities, Immigration,
and Culture& Diversity to life by building New York City out of
gingerbread! The students enjoyed researching, gathering
materials, drawing diagrams and prebuilding with their partners,
and being approved by “City Council” to build the sugary city!
Enjoy the show!
