Spelling in Fourth Grade

_ We follow the Harcourt Grade Four Spelling Program. The children are taught a targeted skill each week, such as vowel sounds, prefixes, and suffixes.

_ Some students may be provided with a customized list of spelling words based upon their individual needs.

_ Each week students may elect to try the challenge words.  The challenge words have NO impact on the spelling score for the weekly test; however, a student who consistently spells the challenge words correctly, and the assigned words, will earn a "4" on the report card.

_ Spelling words are introduced on Tuesday and assessments are given on the following Monday.  I will generally have the students spell 10 of the twenty words on the test.

_ On the test, students will print the spelling words and write them in cursive.  I only grade the printed words.
