6/19/09 The Shenendehowa
community is mourning the tragic death of one of our
students, Patrick Snyder, who passed away on Sunday.
Patrick was a fifth grader at Tesago.
He was quiet
student who was considerate of others and will be missed by
all. He was a Boy Scout and a member of Adirondak Tai Kwon
Do.
We extend our deepest sympathy to his family and all
those who knew him. The services will be at the
Gordan C. Emerick Funderal Home, 1550 Route 9, Clifton
Park on Saturday. Calling hours are from 11-1. Services will begin at
1:00 at the funeral home.

6/10/09 Tesago Gr. 4 to host a
BOTTLE AND CAN DRIVE, FRIDAY, JUNE 12, 3-6 PM, Shenendehowa
United Methodist Church, PARKING LOT on Route 146.
Please help us raise money for transportation so the Tesago
4th graders can participate in a once-in-a-lifetime chance
to be part of bringing legislation to pass that can make
children healthier!
Mrs.
Hickok’s Tesago 4th grade class has been personally
invited by exercise personality Richard Simmons to
participate in an old-fashioned pep rally on the steps
of New York City’s City Hall on June 19th, as part of a
FIT (Fitness Integrated with Teaching) Kids Physical
Education Rally.
Along with New
York City Council Member Tony Avella, Simmons will host a
press conference as they introduce City Council Resolution
1925/2009, calling upon the 111th Congress to pass the FIT
Kids Act. The federal legislation would improve the
standards for physical education to ensure that kids are
active during the school day and know how to stay healthy
through diet and exercise. The American Heart Association
endorses the FIT Kids Act and is working with the
Congressional champions and supportive organizations to
advocate for its passage by Congress.
Mrs. Hickok
incorporated Simmons’ exercise videos into the 12 minutes of
physical education she oversees with her students a few
times each week. Mrs. Hickok has been asked to speak at
the Pep Rally, and the students will get a private
meet-and-greet with Mr. Simmons and Council Member Avella
afterwards.

purchase at the beginning of the year.
Posted on 5/11/09 Tesago Elementary continually lends support to the Cystic Fibrosis
Foundation. They recently held a crazy "Tape the Teachers to the Wall" event
that raised $412.00 in one hour for the foundation! And, last Wednesday, they
had a "Jeans for Genes" dress down day amd raised $325.00 with all proceeds
going to the foundation. "There are many CF families at Shen that depend on
current research to find the cure, these dollars go a long way for that cause,"
said Tesago classroom aide, Nancy Chatelain. Her son Christopher, a former Shen student,
lost his life at the age of 17 due to this disease. Her daughter Kim, also a
former Shen student, has done well with her CF due to the contributions from the
families at Shen over the past ten years.
Posted on 4/3/09 Middle school boundary changes - As a result of the need to balance
enrollments across the three middle schools students from the various elementary
schools will be reassigned. The major changes are:
Skano, Shatekon and
approximately half of Arongen 5th graders will go to Koda for sixth grade.
Chango, Karigon and Orenda
5th graders will go to Gowana for sixth grade.
Tesago, Okte and
approximately half of Arongen 5th graders will go to Acadia for sixth grade.
Students currently in middle
school will remain assigned to the same school until they move on to High School
West for 9th grade.
Requests to attend the same
school as a sibling should be sent to the superintendent's office. Students with
specialized programs may be assigned to a different middle school for that
particular program. Formal notifications will be mailed to parents next week.

3/3/09 Almost March Madness was a HUGE
success! In February, the PTA sponsored Almost March Madness, a basketball
competition between elementary schools. Staff members from
Arongen, Okte, Shatekon,
Skano and Tesago played basketball to a sold-out crowd of supporters. The
program was complete with cheerleading exhibitions for each school. The event
was such a success that there are plans to expand it for next year. Money raised
will be used to support the PTA and our schools! Congratulations to the Shatekon
team for winning the event! Click

On Tuesday, January 13th, fourth and fifth grade students celebrated the launch
of the newest book in the popular Diary of a Wimpy Kid series by Jeff
Kinney. A book release
party for Diary of a Wimpy Kid: the Last Straw was held at the Clifton
Park-Halfmoon Public Library. Over 100 students from Tesago, Skano and Arongen
gathered to play trivia games, participate in contests and share their
excitement about reading the new book! The party was organized by librarians
from Tesago, Skano, Arongen and the public library. Thanks to all who came out
for the fun, our party was a huge success! Be on the lookout for more events
like this one at the public library and in your school library.
In an
effort to ensure consistent practices and protocols across
our elementary schools, the district has developed an
elementary handbook for students and parents and a volunteer
handbook.
