Why are schedules already out? And I’ve found that a lot of them have many mistakes (wrong classes, empty periods, etc.)

A.  The district rolled to next year’s calendar and during that transition people could see incomplete schedules for a short period of time until the transition was completed.

I wasn’t sure I heard this correctly, though it was the answer on the grapevine. The atheletes get luxury charter busses? Which athelets? These busses are in the parking lot year round, and there are more than 2 each day. Which atheletes get to ride these?

A. It varies. Due to the bus driver shortage, athletic teams often need to use charter busses to get to away games and then get picked up by a district bus. This is not an ideal situation, however, our teams have an obligation to get to their scheduled games and contests.

Why does Okte have so many air conditioners in the classrooms?

A.  Okte is a two-story school building and there is no central air conditioning in the classrooms. Air conditioners are provided in the front, upper classrooms because they become excessively hot during some of the early summer and fall days. At times, air conditioners are also provided in classrooms for specific students with disabilities.

If a high school student is not in school during the day are they allowed to participate in a concert that evening? What about a sporting event? Is it true that there were a number of seniors out Monday after prom who seemed to have gotten better that evening for their choir concert.

A.  It is true and students should not be able to participate in activities in the evening if they were absent from school.  The high school administration will do a much better job in reviewing this next school year.

Many students and parents are unable to understand the difference between final exams and regents in high school. Too, they find it hard to understand how the testings figure into the grade equations for the quarter, or the overall grading of the year. Would you be so kind as to spell that out here in this forum? Thank you!

A.  This school year high school faculty members will be spending much time looking to become more consistent when calculating grades using final and regents exams.  While each course may be different, about 10-20% of a student’s grade is made up of the final or Regents exam.

My son is attending Shatekon in the fall. Is there any other way to stay connected with PTA and school events other than Facebook? I would really like to get involved with activities, but dont want to have a social media account.

A. Please refer your question to the PTA president or principal.

Is it just me or should there not being homework right before finals so students can focus on review? Curious what others think
