Nithya Chockalingham, was chosen from Shen and awarded a scholarship relating to V-healthy day and Vascular Awareness. The Center for Vascular Awareness hosts a V-Healthy day annually at Shenendehowa HSE and other local school districts in the spring.   V-Healthy is a grassroots vascular awareness & prevention campaign that empowers young students to better understand the effects of vascular risk factors on their vascular health. The Center for Vascular Awareness provided an opportunity for Biology classes to not only personally interact with local health care professionals and learn about how vascular health connects to our biology curriculum, but to also make connections between life choices and their long-term health.  All Biology students at Shen were offered a scholarship opportunity in which they participated in an at home blood pressure study and wrote an essay about the importance of vascular awareness.  Nithya, a freshman at the time, was awarded the scholarship for Shen and was recently honored at The Center for Vascular Awareness’s Round Table professional conference along with winners from other districts.
