Congratulations to high school student Yicheng Huang for scoring in the top 150 students nationwide on Part 1 of the US National Chemistry Olympiad National Exam. He now moves on to Part 2 on May 2. This is an annual event held worldwide ending with an international competition in the summer.
A local qualifying exam for the US National Chemistry Olympiad Competition for the Eastern NY Local Section of The American Chemical Society was held on April 19th.  This year, Yicheng Huang scored highest among students from schools across the capital region.  Shen students in the top 10 included sophomores Araydeepta De, Nicolas Jos, Lauren Malek, and Emily Yin.
Yicheng and Nicolas were the two Shen students selected to take Part 1 of the National Exam. The top 150 scorers from students across the entire US moved on to Part 2 of the national exam.
Other Shen students participating in the competition were Rupin Raj Kumar Pradeep, Taina Stevens, Gregory Sharma, Catherine Wang and Riane Richard.
We are very proud of these ten students for representing Shen by competing in a difficult exam competition given the restrictions and stress of the COVID-19 pandemic.   We should know the results for Yicheng and Nicolas early next week.
