Congratulations to Shen High School students Mike Komp Jr. and Nick Hill for earning automotive professional certifications while learning remotely from school.

Both completed Automotive Lift Institute (ALI) Lifting it Right Certification, which shows employers that the students know the proper way to lift a vehicle without causing injury or property damage. It provides guidance on spotting and lifting a vehicle, as well as preparing the service bay, maintaining load stability, lowering the lift and lift maintenance, said teacher Brian LaCroix. The students are in the Capital Region BOCES  Automotive Trades Technology and Automotive Youth Educational System (AYES) programs.

Automotive students – along with the more than 1,000 other Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical School students – have been learning remotely since in mid-March when the COVID19 pandemic forced schools to close across the United States.

For many career and tech students, online learning has provided them with an opportunity to acquire industry certifications that improves their value with prospective employers.
