Continue summer learning at Shen…

Parents/Guardians and Students,

We hope everyone is enjoying summer and able to take a break from some of the typical school year routines.

Summer is a great time for students to continue learning.  Exposure to a vast array of real life activities can significantly boost academic outcomes and enhance student confidence as learners when back in school.  Spending time talking about or studying a wide array of topics (e.g., the natural environment, cooking, geography, history, national events, routine car maintenance, and much more) expands a student’s vocabulary and provides important background knowledge for the next level of learning.  The more students know, the more confident they become as learners and the easier it is to learn new information.

In support of continued summer learning, Shenendehowa teachers and administrators have compiled resources on the Shen Summer Learning webpage.   Please see what might be relevant, including summer book recommendations from librarians and English teachers.  Additionally, Capital Region BOCES has developed a Summer Adventures webpage for elementary students, designed to promote hands-on learning.   We hope families find these resources useful.

As we look to the fall, the Governor and State Education Department are expected to provide guidance to schools this week about the parameters for reopening.  Shenendehowa will be reviewing the expectations and working to apply them across the district.  More information will be forthcoming in the next several weeks.

Best wishes for a healthy, relaxing, and productive summer.
