Once again, we would like to thank you for your patience as we navigate these unchartered waters. We understand that you have a lot of questions and we are trying to get answers as quickly as possible but there are still a lot of unknowns.

As of today, Thursday, March 26, there is still no decision by the state regarding a possible extension of the suspension of on-site classes for schools in New York. The Governor’s declaration closed New York State schools through April 1, 2020 with a restart date of April 2, 2020.

Deputy Superintendent Dr. Elizabeth Wood is working on a video presentation to answer some key questions about student learning including:

  • Curriculum
  • Grading
  • Instruction and assignment of work during the suspension of onsite classes

Social/Emotional Wellness

The outbreak of COVID-19 has been stressful for all. Fear and uncertainty about sick family members or fear of becoming ill, food insecurities, loss of employment, and other factors associated with this unprecedented event can be overwhelming,

If your child is experiencing an emotional wellness concern during this unsettled time please do not hesitate to reach out to us. We have created a unified form for parents/students to complete if they need assistance: Once submitted, one of the district’s Student Support Counselors, School Counselors or School Psychologists will be in touch to discuss strategies, skills, and supports.

Update on Spring Sports

All spring sports are currently postponed in New York State.  The New York State Public High School Athletic Association has established April 27th as the decision date to determine if State Championships can be conducted.  

District Facilities and Grounds

The District’s facilities and grounds are closed, other than for official purposes. This includes playgrounds, fields and the track. The paved walkways and roads are open for walking, running, and biking as long as these activities are not occurring in groups, strictly adhering to social distancing. 

Childcare Update

If you are a parent or caregiver who needs child care, please complete this parent need for child care survey. Based on the information you provide about your job, employer, number of children, and financial need, OCFS may be able to help you find the child program you need. It may be a challenge to find child care due to COVID-19 related program closures, however the staff at OCFS are trying their best to support families to find high quality child care that they need. In addition, the OCFS website has several resources available

Backpack Program

The district is continuing to provide backpacks to families who receive one.  If you are interested in helping to fund the program, please send monetary donations to Shenendehowa Central School District – Bountiful Backpack Program. Attention: Becky Carman, 5 Chelsea Place, Clifton Park, NY 12065.

Board meetings

The Board of Education is holding its meetings remotely. The district is working to provide public access to these meetings. Check the website prior to the meeting for information. For now, a video of the meetings will be posted on the BOE Youtube Channel  ( the day after the meetings.


Although there are many uncertainties, the district still has a legal obligation to continue with the budget development process. The proposed 2020-21 budget was presented to the Board of Education at its meeting on 3/24/20. Clearly, the economic situation will be monitored and adjustments made accordingly.
