For senior pictures, Lauren Studios has called my home 3 times asking to take pictures. I would like to know why Shen gives out numbers to companies like these without prior permission from the parent/guardian. If this is true, why does it happen?

A.  The school gives Lauren Studios student information when they are juniors to  mail information home about senior portraits. In the calendar each year we publish our Use of Student Directory Information.

  • The District may make certain Directory Information concerning all students available on request. You have the right to object to the inclusion of information concerning your child in the District’s Directory Information. The Directory Information the District may make available may include any or all of the following:
Name, address, telephone listing, e-mail address, place and date of birth, photograph, grade level, major field of study, dates of attendance, degrees, honors and awards received, most recent previous educational agency or institution attended, participation in officially recognized activities and sports, and weight and height of members of athletic teams; if your child participates on an athletic team, your child’s weight and height may be included in Directory Information.
If you object to the release, as Directory Information, of any or all of the above information concerning your child, you should inform your principal annually, in writing, of your objection on or before the first day of school.

It is a struggle getting many of the students’ senior portraits for the Yearbook. Even with the calls and mailings from Lauren Studios, and emails, signs, and announcements from the Yearbook Club, there are still approximately 200 students who do not have their Senior Portrait in the Yearbook.
