How come orchestra students in the elementary, unlike chorus students, miss entire instructional periods for their lessons and orchestra and then have to make up all of the work and learn the content ? This does not happen to chorus students. It is an excellent way to discourage kids from doing orchestra. I don’t think this happens in the middle or high school.

A. The instrumental programs (band and orchestra) have pull out lessons for small group instruction to help students progress.  This occurs at all grade levels.  In high school, there is enough staffing to pull some students directly from the ensemble rather than from other classes but it is not possible at lower levels.
