I hope moving forward the Board of Education will implement more policies advocating for students with allergies. At the elementary level, there is no consistency amongst the district and there is no consistency within individual buildings or even specific grade levels. That is unfair to children with allergies and draws attention to their difference which is out of their control. Too much centers around food – candy as rewards, birthday treats, parties with goody bags, pizza for lunch in the classroom, etc. Children feel excluded everyday. And please, don’t respond with talking to my principal. I have had extensive discussions with them and the classroom teacher. Indifference is an understatement. School should have elements of fun, but, they should be games, activities, arts and crafts, science projects, etc.
