If Shen has 5 snow days every year, and we only used one this year, why do we only get one snow day back? Where do the other 3 snow days go?

A. The days of work are predicated on various collective bargaining contracts. Teachers for instance are expected to work between 183-186 days per year. Similarly, building level administrators work 10 months plus 21 days in the summer. The superintendent and other district level administrators work 12 months. Some CSEA staff members only work while schools are in session and some work 12 months. The goal is to maximize time in school for students to learn and the effectiveness of personnel. Learning is a complex business.
