In November, 15 Shen High School business students attended the “Suburban Council Business Day,”presented by Suburban Council Business Educators and hosted by Siena College.

More than fifty (50) students attended, representing eight (8) Suburban Council high schools across the region.

Students were welcomed by Dr. Chuck Seifert, the Dean of the School of Business, who discussed with the students the process of choosing a college, and the importance of finding the right “fit” for each individual student.

They then attended a business workshop, which focused on Emotional Intelligent and Leadership, presented by a Siena College Business Professor .

All students then had the opportunity to attend a business class.  Students attended courses such as: International Marketing, Legal Environment of Business/Management, Managerial Finance, Cost Accounting, Micro Economics, Quantitative Business, and Pricing Strategy/Market Analysis.  Small groups if students were welcomed into the classrooms by the professors and students,  and had an opportunity to participate in the instruction.

Lunch was then provided by Siena College, and the students had the opportunity to observe the busy college atmosphere around the Siena Student Union, while visiting with others from different Suburban Council schools.

In the afternoon, students heard from a panel of current Siena business students.  The Siena students discussed their college search process, how they chose their majors, the importance of getting involved in the college experience through activities and internships, and many gave their suggestions on how to become a successful college student. There was also time for a Q/A period, which allowed students to ask the panel particular questions they had prepared.

At the end of the conference, students were given a tour of the campus, which included stops at the Standish Library, Marcelle Athletic Complex, and the William R. Raub ’85 Market Trading Room.
