Shenendehowa has selected two deputies from the Saratoga County Sheriff’s office to serve as school resource officers. Deputy Michael Grigas and Deputy Eric Muller will be assigned to Shen full-time for the 2018-19 school year.

Deputy Grigas has been with the Sheriff’s department since 2000. Prior to that, he worked as an Accounting Supervisor, Accountant and Accounting Clerk. Deputy Muller has been with the Sheriff’s office since 2005. He has worked as a Federal Air Marshal, Correction Officer and served in the U.S. National Guard.

The School Resource Officers will maintain a peaceful environment during school and after-school/evening events, will serve as a resource and mentor, build relationships with student and staff, provide training and education and serve as a liaison to other law enforcement agencies. School discipline will still be the function of the school administrators, not the school resource officer, unless the disciplinary constitutes a violation of the law. In that case, it is normal operating procedures to involve law enforcement.

While the School Resource Officers will serve all of the school buildings, they will primarily be housed in the high school and middle schools.

For the provision of these services for the 2018-18 school year, the district will pay $144,826.68 to the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Department.
