At age 17, can a student attending Shenendehowa drop out without parental consent?

A. NYS Education Law states that a student must attend through the year which they turn 16.  Parents are requested to sign the forms, however there is nothing the school can do if they reach that age and refuse to come to school

I saw one post where a girl was thanking Shen HS for having free sanitary woman’s products, unlike the middle schools. However, you responded with “they are free at all levels”. No, they are not free at all levels. When I got my period in the middle schools if I didn’t have a quarter or my own items with me I would either ask around for a quarter or have to break a dollar in the lunchline, which they didn’t even let me do half the time. If you’re unaware the middle school sanitary products aren’t free, please educate yourself on this information.

A. Things change. A new law, effective July 1, 2018, requires all elementary and secondary public schools in New York State that serve students in any grade from six to twelve, to provide feminine hygiene products to students in school restrooms, at no cost.

What is the curriculum for the Life Skills program at Shatekon?

A.  The FSD curriculum is comprised of a variety of different programs and instructional approaches designed to meet the unique needs of students as they progress through a modified and adapted curriculum. Examples include, TouchMath, Equals Math, Reading Milestones, Reading A to Z, Unique Learning, etc.

Is there any way to print out report cards from previous years?

A.  No, they are no longer available after the new year starts.  If you need a prior year, you must contact your child’s school.
