Transportation Updates for Shen Families. More info…

Written by on September 16, 2021

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for your patience and understanding these past few days. Your transportation department staff is working hard to mitigate the issues surrounding some of our buses’ arrival and departures times.

COVID-19 has really affected our staffing, as it has in many other occupations.  We have lost more drivers for many reasons and have not been able to replace them.

There are three main factors affecting the lateness of buses:

  1. We have the typical school opening delays.  Historically we average approximately 5-10 school days before we get the routes to settle down.
  2. We are obligated, due to contact tracing requirements, to take meticulous attendance, which takes time.
  3. The most chronic of the issues is the shortage of school bus drivers.

So far we are very fortunate that, unlike some other neighboring school districts, we are still able to transport all of our students. Other districts have been notifying parents that some of their bus routes are canceled due to the severe driver shortage.

We would greatly appreciate it if our community members could direct their friends, neighbors, and family members who may be interested in becoming school transportation professionals to stop in and see us.

Here are two links to videos that capture what school transportation is all about.  Please share this information and these videos on your social media pages, friends and family!

Again, thank you for your understanding and patience!
