Why was the VPN forbidden today? It is a tool to protect our own privacy since the district sees it as acceptable to view any data that is sent or recieved by my device which may be personal messages. The VPN does not harm the wifi service in any way and some students did not even receive the warning, causing them to be blocked without knowing about the ban

A.  All schools are required to filter internet content to protect students for accessing inappropriate and harmful content.  When VPN’s are used to circumvent the district’s firewall the content filter and other security measures are bypassed.  This put students at risk and exposes all users to viruses and other malicious content.  Using VPN’s or any other tool to circumvent the districts firewall/content filter is a violation of the BYOD policy.
