Would the district consider dropping the weighting of the Regents exam across all courses to 10%? This would allow students who might only graduate with a basic Regents diploma to actually do so. 20 percent is too high and risks a student failing a whole course when the student fails a regents exam but would have otherwise passed a course. For many kids with disabilities, these Regents exams are a bar to graduating, which is why parents of kids with special needs have been advocating so hard to get rid of the Regents exam requirements. There are people with futures behind these awful stories of kids with dyslexia, dysgraphia, or dyscalculia, or other disabilities such as anxiety, etc. failing Regents exams and taking them multiple times to try to pass. It is heartbreaking and future-breaking for these kids. Please consider better approaches at Shen for the time that we still have these Regents exams.
