Why do we not have prom king and queen anymore.

A. We haven’t had them for at least 10 years.

What is Shen going to do about the class sizes getting bigger and bigger every year there’s no room in any of the school as is now and I don’t see it getting better.

A.  To the contrary, our overall enrollment is actually flat. Further, the K-5 enrollment has been trending down.

Where does the school of excellence designation for Shen come from? Is it from an accreditation? Or is it a tagline created by the district itself? If it’s an accreditation, where does that come from, i.e. who issues it, what are the standards, and when and how is the accreditation audited for continued validity? Thanks.

A. The U.S. Department of Education has the Blue Ribbon School of Excellence Award. For more informatin go to their website. “Committed to Excellence” that is the mantra of the school district.

Can someone please advise as to why a large number of spectators are allowed to stand on the football field with the team. Some of these individuals I understand, Dr. Robinson, Mr. Culnan but not the former football players who no longer attend Shen. I counted over 25 spectators standing on the field at the last home Shen game. Then at the CBA game the same individuals were allowed on the field again.

A. Because they are invited by either the athletic director, coach or the superintendent.

I was wondering if instead of just advertising on the new sign when the football games were, we could advertise every game/match/meet that’s going on at Shen that week. There are other sports than just football.

A. We don’t advertise all of the football games. Events posted on the signs are events with a broad community appeal taken from the district calendar. We could not possible post every single game, meet, musical concert, fundraising activity, etc.

What are the actual issues surrounding the bottle flipping game? What harm has such an innocent game wrought?

A. We are concerned that bottles open, caps split and these things create a mess.  In addition, when thrown in the air they can hit unsuspecting students.

Hello, does Shen have any involvement in environmental conservation efforts? The school would be a great way to raise awareness for the next generation, and as such, would it be possible to raise awareness this November 28? On that day, it was six months since Harambe was shot, and I think to raise awareness about this endangered species, the silverback gorilla, we could have a moment of silence on that day.

A.  The district has an Environmental Committee that is focused more on energy conservation but not endangered species.  I don’t know of a club within the district that specifically focuses on that.

Why is PDA allowed?

A. It is not, but we try to work with students to understand that it is not allowed and in so doing, sometimes certain people are able to understand sooner than others regarding our expectations.

Why does HSW have a salad bar, will this be offered at HSE I know a lot of kids would eat from the salad bar. Its a great idea and great way to have the kids eat healthy.

A. It is already offered at High School East every Wednesday.

Given the new posters encouraging against swearing, what is Shen’s actual view on swearing? Why limit our use of drastic words that properly express our thoughts and emotions?

A. We are trying to prepare you to live and work in a civil society.
