I cant go to the bathroom for more than three minutes before 1st period at hse without hearing/seeing a group of kids vaping or discussing their vaping habits. Why are these kids able to get away with this daily?

A. Vaping is a problem. If you see something, say something.

Can we PLEASE visit the idea of metal detectors and/or armed guards at the entrances of Shen schools? How many more tragedies will it take for us to become pro-active as it relates to on campus school violence?

Written by on February 16, 2018 in Grapevine

A. Getting 10,000 students and their backpacks through metal detectors each morning is simply not feasible. How would we protect the students waiting in line to go through the metal detector? Plus, according to law enforcement, it only provides a false sense of security. Using metal detectors only works if you were to operate schools […]

Sorry to be morbid, but in the midst of the umpteenth school shooting this year, I’d just like to know what, if any, preventive measures Shen is taking to avoid something like that happening here. I’m unfortunately finding myself more and more scared to go to school and would appreciate some reassurance. Thank you.

In my opinion, very few of the comments and questions on this grapevine deserve a response. I am an advocate of supporting our students and the larger school community. However, giving public recognition to the broad array of rabble that send in these errant and meaningless comments and questions only serves to degrade our fine educational system. No response necessary.

Is shen going to start active shooter drills? What are other precautions the school could take to make sure a school shooting doesn’t happen?

A. The district already has those drills. A letter went out to parents/guardians about the precautions the district takes. This is also posted on the website under breaking news.

It has come to my attention that students were notified some time ago that they were either accepted or rejected from the World Language Honors Society. I am in 11th grade and have not taken 2 languages thus far, so I was told by my teacher that I was not eligible to apply for it. However, two of my friends applied even though they also take only 1 language and they got in. The rule has been that a certain number of credits are needed to join and if they list this as a rule the club should follow it and not just allow everyone who applied to be accepted. I am very disappointed as I would have applied for World Language Honors Society if I was told that I could and that they would just accept everyone in. This is very upsetting and I know several other students are mad about this as well. I hope something is done about this as it is completely unfair.
