What is Shens grading policy? specifically the idea of middle schoolers having the ability to re do all testing as they wish? or is that a myth? what is the homework grading policy> is the the hour limitation still in action? is Shen reconsidering anything about their grading policy, due, to many of the changes in the grading policies that are flooding around us. Thanks, sorry this question is a longer one.

Having campus security directing traffic by Koda and Gowana at dismissal does NOT help at all! In order to effectively direct traffic, I believe you give traffic from every direction an opportunity to go. I sat for eight minutes yesterday while cars from every other direction were allowed to pass…THEN since we were there so long, we then had to wait for all the buses to leave. It took me 25 minutes to get from Koda to the other side of campus HSE. Poor traffic direction makes an already busy situation worse. Very frustrating!

Can we PLEASE visit the idea of metal detectors and/or armed guards at the entrances of Shen schools? How many more tragedies will it take for us to become pro-active as it relates to on campus school violence?

Written by on February 16, 2018 in Grapevine

A. Getting 10,000 students and their backpacks through metal detectors each morning is simply not feasible. How would we protect the students waiting in line to go through the metal detector? Plus, according to law enforcement, it only provides a false sense of security. Using metal detectors only works if you were to operate schools […]

Is shen going to start active shooter drills? What are other precautions the school could take to make sure a school shooting doesn’t happen?

Written by on February 16, 2018 in Grapevine

A. The district already has those drills. A letter went out to parents/guardians about the precautions the district takes. This is also posted on the website under breaking news.

It has come to my attention that students were notified some time ago that they were either accepted or rejected from the World Language Honors Society. I am in 11th grade and have not taken 2 languages thus far, so I was told by my teacher that I was not eligible to apply for it. However, two of my friends applied even though they also take only 1 language and they got in. The rule has been that a certain number of credits are needed to join and if they list this as a rule the club should follow it and not just allow everyone who applied to be accepted. I am very disappointed as I would have applied for World Language Honors Society if I was told that I could and that they would just accept everyone in. This is very upsetting and I know several other students are mad about this as well. I hope something is done about this as it is completely unfair.

A. Students who are interested in joining World Language Honor Society, or who have questions about the application process, should contact Ms. Jennifer Bennett or Mr. Nicholas Spanswick

Why is it that to obtain Senior Privileges you are required to have at least a 65% in all classes, but for the Junior Citizenship Pass, you are required to have an 85% or higher? The Senior Privileges entails much more than the Junior Citizenship Pass, so shouldn’t it have a higher criteria? It seems as it should be the other way around, seeing as the JCP comes with less privileges. Not that much of a big deal, just caught my attention.

A. Good point. Talk to your principal.

Why are there so many potholes by the swimming pool and when will they be fixed

Written by on February 16, 2018 in Grapevine

A. The potholes in this area are from the heavy school bus traffic. These potholes have been repaired twice with patching solutions during the winter, however proper adhesion is not favorable with the weather and cold temps. Once the asphalt plants reopen in the spring  more lasting repairs will be made.

Why does water, out of the HSE filtered water fountains, taste salty. I understand that filtration does not dispose of salt, but really?? You spend all this money on filtered water fountains and then the water is still terrible due to salt.

Written by on February 16, 2018 in Grapevine

A. The water service for High School West and the entire district town is supplied from the town of Clifton Park. Water fountains provide filtering and many offer bottle filing devices.
