A quick question regarding gender neutrality taking center stage because once again Shen is all about being up on all things 21st century! Since there will no longer be signs designating “boys” and “girls” bathrooms will it be acceptable and not frowned upon when a male (adult) who happens to need a restroom, opts to identify as a female and uses the girl’s bathroom? How does one know and differentiate between those who are now coming out and identifying and those that are creeeps amount us? Can you say for certain there are no employees with otherwise nefarious pasts and what would prevent someone from simply stating they now identify as the opposite sex? There would be nothing a school could do to prevent them from using the restroom occupied by someone they would be preying upon. Am I saying this exists, no! However, stop jumping to the forefront trying to be “that school” who’s first to do it all and think about the lives you’re messing with! However, since Shen is all about their sports…I’ll sit back and wait for this show because you know it’s coming. This will once again bring the school district to national news…smh

A. This wasn’t a quick question and Shen is not removing signs designating boy and girl restrooms. We continue to have both boy/girl restrooms and gender neutral restrooms. Nothing has changed.

Why is each percussion student in the HSE band required to purchase their own snare drum sticks, bell mallets, timpani mallets, and yarn marimba mallets. I just purchased these for my child (no snare sticks) and paid $115! This is crazy! Why doesn’t Shen have a supply for these kids to use? It’s not like they are playing an instrument that they can bring home! So why doesn’t Shen have these in the band room for the students to use. Ex. there is only one student who can play a timpani at a time yet all percussion students will have mallets for it. Why?

A.  Percussion students at the middle and high school are asked to purchase only one set of mallets/sticks each year, a cost similar to what other students would have to pay yearly for reeds, mouthpieces, etc.

I witnessed a rat run across the cafeteria floor a few nights ago. As a student who eats at the cafeteria often what is being done about this issue ?

A.  If seen again, please inform the nearest adult for immediate action. However, we are regularly inspected by a pest control contractor.

Hi. I am a student in HSW and an avid leggins-wearer. Leggings are comfortable and they can be worn with many other articles of clothing. We didn’t have to do this in eighth grade, but why do we have to wear shirts that come till mid-thigh in length just to wear leggings? Wearing a top that doesn’t come till mid-thigh doesn’t mean that this outfit is provocative but rather puts a deeper restraint on female students in the building. As a female student, I find this dress code policy very derogatory to girls. Please explain this rule. Wearing a shorter top will not and should not hinder someone else’s education.

A. The purpose of school is to learn. Restrictions on fashion are made at the building level based on whether or not someone’s choices are safe and appropriate and/or disrupt, distract or interfere with the educational process or participation in a school activity/function.

A. We do not recognize Senior Skip Day as an event. All students are obligated to be in school when school is in session.

Just wondering, high school east students aren’t allowed to go to there locker during lunch? I got stopped by a monitor and so did my friend. My next period is all the way across the school I go from 214-157 and then to 237-161… just doesn’t make sense to me they tell us to be on time yet we can’t grab a binder from our locker during our lunch period? Not trying to be rude just trying to understand the concept.

It is only the second week of school and the juniors are already taking all the seniors parking spots in the main lot. Why is nothing being done about this?? Its very annoying they need to wait till theyre seniors because this years class has barely any parking spots because of juniors!

A.  The monitors are out every day checking as are the CAPS. We have run license plates and addressed many students who are parking illegally.

Does the new principal suffer from photosensitivity, forcing him to stay indoors and not greet the students on their way into the building? I have been apart of Flynt’s fan club, “Flynt’s Fennec’s,” a program dedicated to honoring him. This new guy doesn’t stand outside and greet students like Flynt did. That’s what got me through that day. His smile, the laugh, the way he carried himself, they were all qualities that made me want to come to school. Now I just want to stay at home and drown my sorrows with reality television programs. Signed: The Finniky Fennic
