Dear Grapevine, I have asked multiple times. And unfortunately I’m not surprised you are choosing to ignore my inquiry. Again, what type of training do varsity level coaches undergo, if any, to ensure professional and ETHICAL behavior. Please forward to AD as necessary. There clearly is overwhelming concern with pay to play type of behavior across many sports here. Thank you.

In the south hallway adjacent to the gym 2 in HSE there are ALWAYS people vaping there. Even though there are cameras and the JCP only rule has been enacted, there are still people vaping EVERY DAY. Why can’t there be a monitor standing in this hallway at all times or just to close the hallway??? This is a serious prblem and must be addressed.

A.  Thank you –  We will increase monitoring in this area and look at cameras.

A.  Physical Education is about movement and we hope everyone enjoys a healthy lifestyle. As part of the assessment, PE teachers administer basic quizzes to check for understanding of concepts.

will my AP World exam go into the portal

Written by on April 30, 2018 in Grapevine

A.  Students can access their AP exam scores in two ways.  They can login to the College Board website and get them directly.  After we receive them from the College Board, we upload them into students’ Naviance accounts. If you’re asking if AP exam scores are included in your course grade, the answer is no, […]

Would it be possible to take a math course over the summer (i.e. Algebra I), take the summer regents, and then take the next math course the incoming school year (i.e. Geometry)? Thanks.

Written by on April 30, 2018 in Grapevine

A.  Requests such as these must be reviewed and approved by the Academic Administrator for Mathematics 6 -12.  Generally, students must take Algebra over a whole year and then other possibilities can be discussed beyond that.

Why can I not view the “implementation plan” on the 1 to 1 website? Is the class of 2019 getting chromebooks next year?

Written by on April 30, 2018 in Grapevine

A.  We’ll check on why that file can’t be viewed.  Yes, the plan is for all students in grades 9-12 to receive school-issued and owned Chromebooks next year.

Why is the weight lifting class in HS East only for students participating on a Shen sports team? That’s not fair. Everyone should have a chance to take this class. The weight room was built for the benefit of all students. Shen athletes have other designated times to use it – during pre-season, after school, etc. and many use it during their free periods also. Students that are not Shen athletes should have a right to be in this class also.

A.  The fitness center is open every day before and after school for students who do not participate in athletics.  Also, in the spring semester, students who are not athletes are enrolled in the class.

Hi, I’m an accelerated student in high school west who is taking a tenth grade social studies/english course. Obviously, with it being an accelerated course, a large amount of homework, classwork, and responsibility is expected. However, shouldn’t a class that is taught to both tenth and ninth graders be taught the same way? Because it is the same course, with the same content, taught by the same teachers? I don’t want to mention specific names, but our teachers regularly give us [ninth graders] tedious, time-consuming assignments that we put time and effort in. This would be fine, however, their tenth grade students in the same course don’t receive many of those assignments. Not only is this unfair, but many, many times more than once our teachers didn’t even grade those assignments, put them in the portal, or handed them back. We’re spending time to complete assignments and then they’re not even being graded. Why can teachers just choose not to grade work that they decided to assign? It’s really unfair, and as an accelerated student I can’t spend so much time on one class.

A.  9th and 10th grade World Culture-H/World Literature-H share several common assessments throughout the year.  All of the assignments from the art text are the same.  These assignments (synthesis activities) are all graded and are used to determine student understanding and shape instruction based on how well students grasp concepts in their reading.  Global and […]
