Student Council meets the first and third Wednesday of every month from
8:00 am to 8:45 am in G9.  Student Council consists of representatives from
each grade level.  A mandatory informational meeting is held during
September for all students interested in joining. Meetings are held to plan
activities which foster school spirit, develop leadership, and support the
community.  Typical events sponsored by Student Council are dances, a
Halloween dress-up contest, food drives, spirit week, breakfasts for faculty
and staff, and more.

GOWANA SKI and SNOWBOARDING CLUB

Gowana Ski and Snowboard Club meets on six Wednesday afternoons during
the months of January and February.   Skiing takes place at West Mountain
in Glens Falls, N.Y.    The club runs from 3:35 – 9:00 pm.   Students need to
be picked up at the Gowana front entrance at 9:00 pm.     An informational
meeting will be held before school on Wednesday, 9/28/22.  Registration
forms and information on how to purchase ski passes and bus transportation
will be distributed at this meeting.   After 9/28/22, information packets will
be available in the Gowana main office.  Costs vary each year.  Ski passes
typically cost $165 or more.  Bussing is estimated at $100 or more.
Students can also pay for add-ons such as: ski equipment rentals, lessons,
and meal plans. Interested students should contact Mr. Sergott or Mr.
Keegan if they miss the informational meeting or have any questions.  This
club fills fast.  Cross-enrollment is not allowed.

GOWANA YEARBOOK CLUB

This club is for 6th  , 7th , and 8th  Graders.  The Yearbook Club meets during the
school year every week from 3:45 pm until the late bus in Gowana Room 946. 
Students may also check out a club camera from the Gowana Attendance
Office to take pictures throughout the school day or at special events and
activities for inclusion in the yearbook.  We are in need of photographers
and yearbook production staff.  If you like to take pictures, please contact
Mrs. Cahill or Ms. Romano (emails above), and let us know as soon as
possible.  Yearbook club meetings will be announced very soon!!

The Gowana Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society is an organization
dedicated to scholarship, leadership, character, citizenship, and community
service.  Club members will be active this year in a variety of community
service activities, both in Gowana and in the larger community.  Club
members are current Gowana eighth-grade students who were inducted in
May 2022.  Current seventh-graders who are academically eligible for the
Gowana NJHS will receive an invitation to apply in February 2023.  The

GOWANA JAZZ ENSEMBLE

The Jazz Ensemble is a group comprised of approximately 25 seventh and
eighth grade students.  Entrance into the group is based on auditions which
are held in September.  The group performs several times throughout the
school year at a variety of venues.  It is a lot of fun, but requires a strong
time commitment on the part of the student.  Rehearsals are held after
school starting in October.  Parents should be prepared to provide
transportation to performances.

6th GRADE MENTOR PROGRAM

Each member of this club is paired up with a staff member that will act as
their mentor. The student and mentor get together once every few
weeks during the school day. Once a month, all members of the club get
together after school and engage in group activities. A great time is had by
one and all!

kindness. Artists who want to participate in this project, should be able to

that you are able to collaborate with your peers and work cleanly.

Illustration Club is an Open Art Studio Space.  Students are
encouraged to work independently on self-driven projects or weekly prompts
while discussing art related topics with peers.  Students interested in
working with like-minded artists are welcome to join.  Art room materials are
open for use and exploring each meeting.  Club is 6th-8th Grade Acadia

Open to students in grades 6, 7, and 8, the Acadia Yearbook Club creates
and sells the Acadia Yearbook.  Students are guided by advisors to create
the best student centered yearbook for their class and classmates, using an
online publishing program.  Biweekly meetings are held to design, create, and
work cooperatively to achieve short term as well as long-term goals. 
Students can pick up applications in person in Acadia rooms 205 and 207.
Meetings are held in Room 207. Time and location are TBD. Listen for
updates on the morning announcements. Students may go home on the late
bus at 4:10.  Students should bring their chrome books to meetings. 
Yearbooks are currently available for $28 online at www.yearbookforever.com.

The Jazz Ensemble is a group comprised of approximately 30 seventh and
eighth grade students.  Entrance into the group is based on interest and
signing up!  The group performs several times throughout the school year at
a variety of venues.  It is a lot of fun! Students will learn a variety of jazz
styles such as: Swing, Rock, Salsa and Funk.  Students must understand that
Jazz Ensemble is a commitment, and regular participation at rehearsals and
performances is important.  Rehearsals will start on October 3 and are held
on Monday mornings at 8:00-8:45 am.  Parents should be prepared to provide
transportation to rehearsals and performances.

Acadia Student Council will be held after school on Tuesdays from 3:35 to

Shen Buddies pair students with disabilities to non-disabled peers in an
effort to build friendships. The club meets once or twice a month on
Wednesdays or Thursdays from 3:45 – 4:30. Members participate in various
social activities together. Members must be able to attend our group
functions regularly. Grades 6-8 welcome.

KODA JAZZ ENSEMBLE

The Koda Jazz Band is an ensemble that consists of 7 th and 8 th graders that
rehearses and performs throughout the year. With participation in Jazz
Band, students will experience a wide variety of jazz, rock, and pop music.
Rehearsals will begin in mid October and will be held in the Middle School
Auditorium or Band room on Friday mornings from 7:45 – 8:45am.
Performances will include Koda Café, All District Jazz Festival, The Koda
Jazz Luncheon, and the 8 th Grade Moving Up Ceremony. Auditions for Guitar,

The Koda Student Council is a student led club in which members vote upon
and organize school spirit activities. Throughout the year, the Koda Student
Council will host dances, facilitate candy grams, participate in fundraisers,
assist with the dodgeball tournament, and hold other activities to build
school morale. The meetings for Koda Student Council will be held before
school on alternate Wednesdays from 8:10-8:40 AM.

JUNIOR HONOR SOCIETY

National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is a prestigious club honoring
students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship,
leadership, service, character, and citizenship. After the first semester of
7 th grade, 7 th grade students who have achieved an average of 93% or higher
for the first year and a half of middle school will be invited to apply.
Students will be selected through an application process. All students who
are selected for the club will be inducted in the spring of their 7 th grade
year and will be members of NJHS throughout their 8 th grade year. While in
the club, students will have an opportunity to participate in service projects
both in the school and the community. Current members will meet in the
Auditorium after school on Thursdays.

The Reading Buddies Club is open to all 6th, 7th and 8th grade Koda
students. The club meets once a week before school at 8:00 a.m. in room
K603. As a group, we walk over to Orenda Elementary School and read with
second grade buddies.  The purpose of the club is to foster a love of reading
for both the middle school and elementary school students.  The club
members learn how to work with emergent readers and develop their reading
skills in a fun-filled environment.

Future Cities

Future City Competition is a tri-building club. This club is for students in 6 th –
8 th grade. The members of the team research about a particular problem
that faces cities today and in the future.  The purpose is to try to solve the
problem and develop a futuristic city with the solution part of its design.
There are three parts to the competition. The first part is to use the Sim
City Computer Program to develop a city that has at least a 150 year history,
while maintaining certain levels of excellence for its citizens. The second
part is to write an essay concerning the theme for this year. This year’s
theme is: “Climate Change”. The third part is to actually build a large model
of a section of the city. The competition is held in January. If you are
interested in joining the team, see or e-mail the advisor above from your
home school. We encourage anyone who likes working on computers,
(especially if you have used the Sim City programs), as well as building
models, to join us.

Junior SAGA is an alliance of students, faculty and staff in the tri-building
who celebrate diversity and promote an environment of acceptance for all
students. The club’s purpose is to create a safe learning environment for all
students. The club will function as a social group, in which students will
participate in various activities in school and outside in the community. The
group will provide support, safety and confidentiality to it’s members. We
will meet the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 3:35pm in the Art
room 907. Students can take the late bus home.

TRI-BUILDING GAK BOWLING CLUB

GAK Bowling Club is a tri-building club for 6th, 7th and 8th grade students
who attend Gowana, Acadia and Koda. All students are welcome: experienced
and inexperienced bowlers.  Games will be bowled at Spare Time Bowling
Alley. Transportation to the bowling alley will be provided by Shenendehowa
buses, leaving from Acadia after school. Students must have a
parent/guardian promptly pick them up at 5:30 pm at the alley. Students
may bring spending money to purchase snacks at the snack bar. A pizza party
will be provided on the last day of both sessions. The fall session begins in
October and the spring session dates will be announced later in the school
year.

TRI-BUILDING AMBASSADORS ROCK BAND

Welcome to the Shenendehowa Ambassadors home page.  The Ambassadors
are a mixed, auditioned rock band open to any students at the tri-building
middle school. The Ambassadors are made up of guys and girls in grades 6, 7,
and 8. We have several students that participate in band and orchestra as
well as several members who take chorus. This diversity allows students to
bring their unique points of view and varying musicianship skills together to
create a sound that is both exciting and unique. Ambassadors meet Tuesdays
after school until 5:00pm starting on October 4th. Transportation will be
needed.

TRI-BUILDING MUSICAL THEATER

This is open to grades 6, 7 and 8 in all three middle schools. In a workshop
setting, club members will learn about the different aspects of theater and
musical production.  Students will engage in activities that focus on stage
performance as well as the work that is necessary behind the scenes to
create a musical production. Students will sing, act and learn what goes into building a production.
Students will work toward performance opportunities.  This club will meet
from 3:30-5:00 on Wednesdays, beginning with a mandatory meeting on
October 12, and is open to all interested students.

TRI-BUILDING TREBLE CHOIR

Treble Choir is a vocal performing ensemble for girls. We will perform at a
number of different venues with varied repertoire while having a great time.
This is an auditioned group. Auditions will be held the third week of
September. Any member of a performing group grades 6-8 (band, orchestra,
chorus) can audition. We meet and rehearse Thursdays after school from
3:35-4:50, September through June.

TRI-BUILDING FRENCH CLUB

French Club is a tri-building club facilitated by Monsieur Luttinger, one of
our 7 th grade French teachers. It meets every other week from October
until the end of May. It is open to all students in grades 6-8 whether they
are taking French or not. Students participate in cultural activities such as
food preparation, celebration of French holidays, games and more! 

TRI-BUILDING GERMAN CLUB

Grades: All students in grades 6, 7, and 8. German Club features hands on
experience with German culture and is open to all middle school students
regardless of actual language enrollment. Some examples include celebrating
Oktoberfest, New Year’s customs, German board games, and food
preparation/tasting. Meetings are held on every other Thursday after
school until 4:45 p.m. Transportation will be needed or you can leave early
and take the late bus. The first meeting starts on October 13, 2022 and run
through May.

language you take. We do projects, celebrate holidays, and participate in
other activities all related to ancient Roman culture and the Latin language.
The Latin club meets every other Monday after school in Room 948. Our
first meeting will be on Monday, October 3rd.

The Math Counts Club and Competition program is a national middle school
activity that promotes mathematics achievement and creative thinking
through group work and fun and engaging contests. The club is open to any
tri-building student in grades 6 – 8.

TRI-BUILDING ODYSSEY OF THE MIND

Odyssey of the Mind is a tri-building club. It encourages the students, on a
team of 5-7, to creatively solve one of five problems. All ideas on how to
solve the problem, and the work, must come from the students. The team
usually meets once a week after school until 5:00 pm. Competition occurs
locally in early March. If anyone is interested listen to the announcements
for our first meeting in October. We encourage anyone who likes to build,
create, and have fun, to join.

TRI-BUILDING INTRAMURALS

Many seasonal intramurals are offered to students in grades 6 through 8.
They are listed in the student agenda. Intramurals meet before school at
8:00 am. Announcements are made to let students know when each sport
intramural is starting, and where they meet. Sports currently offered are:
Soccer, Flag Football, Cross Country, Field Hockey, Wrestling, Gymnastics,
Tennis, Boys and Girls Basketball, Floor Hockey, Volleyball, Team Handball,
Girls and Boys Lacrosse, Girls Softball, Boys Baseball, Weight Training, and

SPEECH AND DEBATE TEAM

Speech and Debate Club is run by high school students and it offers
students training aimed at improving oral communication, logical reasoning,
research skills and persuasive techniques in a fun yet competitive
atmosphere. First, students meet as a whole club, then they break into
smaller more specific groups based on speech or debate event. We meet

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) National Science Bowl® is a
nationwide academic competition that tests students’ knowledge in all areas
of science and mathematics. Middle and high school student teams from
diverse backgrounds are comprised of four students, one alternate, and a
teacher who serves as an advisor and coach. These teams face-off in a fast-
paced question-and-answer format, being tested on a range of science
disciplines including biology, chemistry, Earth science, physics, energy, and
math.  Regional and national events encourage student involvement in math
and science activities of importance to the Department of Energy and the

This is open to 8 th graders in all 3 Schools. We meet Tuesdays after school
until 4:15 PM. The late bus is provided. This is a hands on club where
students come and build on skills they learned in class.  They will work on
projects for themselves and the community.

requirements.

CODING CLUB

This is open to all students in all 3 grades in all three middle schools.
We will meet Thursday after school from Dec. 1 st – May 12, 2023.
Meetings where students learn coding/programming and can compete in
competitions.  It will prepare students to compete in the ACSL contest. All

through NYSSMA, All-County, Suburban Council, and other extra musical
activities. Students will need to audition for those experiences to join the
club. Rehearsal dates and times will vary. 

MEDITATION CLUB

Let’s all start our day on a positive, relaxing note!  This club is for all
middle school students in grades 6-8.  We will work on breathing and
visualization strategies to help us renew and let go of our negative thoughts. 

The club will take place on Wednesday mornings 8-8:35 beginning October 5
in Acadia room 302.  It will be a great way to re-energize each week.  Hope

FIRST LEGO LEAGUE CLUB

This program introduces science, technology, engineering and math
(STEM) to middle schoolers through fun, exciting hands-on learning. FIRST
LEGO League participants gain real-world problem-solving experiences
through a guided, global robotics program, helping today’s students and
teachers build a better future together. Club meetings are Thursdays after
school until 5:30pm in the Gowana Tech room 930. Parents will have to
provide transportation home.   If interested, please join the Google

SHEN SOCIAL CLUB

The club will meet on Monday’s after school in room 909. The club will
end at 4:15 and the kids will take the bus home or get a ride. We are
offering this club to 7th and 8th graders. The club will start November 7th
and will finish the club at the end of February. Any students that are
interested please pick up a permission slip at the Koda Counseling office or
room 909. The club will be an opportunity for students to make new friends,
and participate in discussions that foster positive communication.

NATIONAL HISTORY DAY CLUB

National History Day club will meet Tuesdays after school in Room A216. National History day is a regional, state, and national history research competition where individuals or teams of 2-4 people (students can choose their own teams) can create live performances, websites, videos, visual presentations, or papers that fit a yearly historical theme. This year’s theme is Frontiers in History: People, Places, and Ideas. Students get to choose the topic they research as well!
