Summer Education and Enrichment

GRADE 6-12 SUMMER SCHOOL

Summer School – The Shenendehowa Summer School Program provides students in grades 6-12 an opportunity to take courses for credit recovery, skill building, Regents review, August Regents examinations, and acceleration (Health). The program is held:

  • July 8- August 12
  • Monday – Thursday from 8 a.m. to 12:05 p.m.
  • High School West

Registration

This year registration for all Courses, Checkpoint A exams, Regents Review classes, and August Regents exams will be completed online by Middle School and High School Counselors and/or the Summer School Office.  Students of Shenendehowa residents who attend private schools will register through the Summer School Office.

Regents Review Classes and Regents Exams

Five, two- hour Regents Review classes are offered for all August Regents examinations.  The dates for these classes are August 5-8, and 12. The Earth Science Practical Lab exam is scheduled for Thursday, August 8th.  Regents examinations will be administered on Tuesday and Wednesday, August 13th and 14th.  The last day for exam registration is Tuesday, July 16th.

Checkpoint A Exams

Review classes are offered for eighth grade students who need to retake the French or Spanish Checkpoint A exams.  The review classes will be held July 22 – August 1 (Monday – Thursday), and the two-part exam will be administered on August 5+6 (Monday and Tuesday).

Transportation

Transportation to Summer School is offered at the beginning of each day (arrival time at HS West approx. 7:30 a.m.) and at the end of each school day (approximate departure time from HS West is 12:15 p.m.).  Buses will stop at various street locations, similar to those used for Late Bus transportation.  Buses WILL NOT stop at individual homes.  Parents/guardians may also provide their own transportation to and from Summer School.  During the registration process, parents/guardians can indicate if their child will use school transportation.

Meals

Breakfast and lunch meals are offered daily for students enrolled in the Summer School program.  

The Bountiful Backpack program is also available to eligible students during the summer session.

Summer driver’s education program

The High School Summer School Program also offers driver’s education. This non-credit course includes 24 hours of classroom instruction and 24 hours of on the road instruction. Students must have a valid NYS Learners Permit or license prior to taking the program. The program runs July-August. Students must be 16 years of age on or before July 1.

Payments are non-refundable once the program begins. Checks must be made payable to Shenendehowa Central School District.
Registration will take place May- June. The program is conducted Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

SUMMER LITERACY SUPPORT PROGRAM (GR. 1-6)

Summer Literacy Support Program – This program was designed, in accordance with New York State Learning Standards, to help children in developing reading, writing, and math skills. A team of certified teachers works with children daily for the four weeks of the program.

Summer Literacy Support Program is a concentrated session of learning, providing intensive interventions to students. Students are invited by their home schools for participation.

The Summer Literacy Program will be held:

July 9, 2018 through August 2, 2018

Days: Monday through Thursday (weekly)

Times: 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Location: Karigon Elementary School

Transportation to and from the program will be provided by the district.

EXTENDED SCHOOL YEAR (ESY)/SPECIAL EDUCATION Summer Program

The Extended School Year Program (ESY) provides special education and related services to students in grades K-12 to prevent the loss of skills during the summer.

Dates: July 2 – August 10

Arongen and High school West

  • Arongen Half-day Program – 8 a.m.-10:30 a.m.
  • Arongen Full-day Program – 8 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
  • High School West Half-day Program – 9 a.m.-11:30 a.m.
  • High School West Full-day Program – 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m.

SUMMER ENRICHMENT CAMPS

Shen Summer Adventures – The Shenendehowa Central School District, in conjunction with the Community Education Department, is pleased to sponsor our Summer Enrichment Program for students entering grades 1-12. Some camps are half-day camps while others are full day camps. Most camp directors and staff members are current Shenendehowa employees. All camps will be located primarily on the Shenendehowa campus.
