    Summer Driver’s Education Program

*Updated info for 2023 driver’s education coming soon*

The High School Summer School Program also offers driver’s education. This non-credit course includes 24 hours of classroom instruction, which is currently held virtually, and 24 hours of on the road instruction, which is currently supervised by a parent, guardian or licensed adult, 21 years of age or older, due to COVID restrictions. The supervising driver will receive weekly checklists to cover with their student, log their required driving time, and submit their progress reports. Students must have a valid NYS Learners Permit or license prior to taking the program. The program runs July-August. Students must be 16 years of age on or before July 1.

Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive the NYS Pre-Licensing Course Completion certificate, which is required in order to schedule a road test at the DMV, as well as a certification of completion of the course.  This enables students to apply for their senior license at age 17, and may increase their eligibility for car insurance premium discounts.

The summer program is offered during July and August and is a condensed program, due to the brief time period in which it is held. Registration is typically held in June by mail.  Payment is made via check or money order payable to Shenendehowa Central School District, and is non-refundable once the program begins.

Updates are posted on the district website under the resources for Community Services/Education tab via the Driver Education link on the right-hand side, in May or early June.  Please check back for updates to the program and registration information, as it becomes available.
