What is Shens grading policy? specifically the idea of middle schoolers having the ability to re do all testing as they wish? or is that a myth? what is the homework grading policy> is the the hour limitation still in action? is Shen reconsidering anything about their grading policy, due, to many of the changes in the grading policies that are flooding around us. A. Getting 10,000 students and their backpacks through metal detectors each morning is simply not feasible. How would we protect the students waiting in line to go through the metal detector? Is shen going to start active shooter drills? What are other precautions the school could take to make sure a school shooting doesn’t happen?
A. The district already has those drills. A letter went out to parents/guardians about the precautions the district takes. This is also posted on the website under breaking news.
Why are there so many potholes by the swimming pool and when will they be fixed
A. The potholes in this area are from the heavy school bus traffic. These potholes have been repaired twice with patching solutions during the winter, however proper adhesion is not favorable with the weather and cold temps. Once the asphalt plants reopen in the spring more lasting repairs will be made.
Why does water, out of the HSE filtered water fountains, taste salty. I understand that filtration does not dispose of salt, but really?? You spend all this money on filtered water fountains and then the water is still terrible due to salt.
A. The water service for High School West and the entire district town is supplied from the town of Clifton Park. Water fountains provide filtering and many offer bottle filing devices.
I would like to offer a suggestion. When you mail out the kindergarten registration packet, can Shen please add a list of the available kindergarten wrap programs that offer childcare in the district? Some parents need to work and this would be helpful for us to have, since the district only offers a half day kindergarten program. Thank you
A. The district does not maintain a list of daycare centers, and cannot make recommendations or endorsements regarding businesses in the area. Since this list is ever-changing, a google search of “Clifton Park daycare” or similar, will give you a current list to get started.
Is it possible the High School Musical Company would do a production of Hamilton?
A. Any selection for the HS musical will be considered providing the rights are available, the content is appropriate for public High School students and audiences, and the show is flexible enough given the student composition within the cast at the given time.
Why doesn’t Shen get days off on Islamic Holidays?
A. The calendar is driven by BOCES, Board policy and contractual agreements. The days off for religious holidays have been based on the size of the population observing the holidays. At some point, with changing demographics and diversity in religions, it may be impractical to recognize any religious holiday.
Why hasn’t the after school snack program been open for more than a week at HSE?
A. They are closed during Regents week.
