I don’t understand. Previously you had said you did receive an IP address and then you said you didn’t. Then you said that you got a MAC address. What is true? Is this completely anonymous?

A. The system used for the old website provided an IP address. This website uses WordPress which does not. So it is anonymous. However…it could probably be traced by law enforcement if the need arose.

Hi, I was wondering who I should contact about the amount of Summer homework many children have? It seems if you are in HS and in accelerated or honors classes, you get punished over the summer. The amount of time spent – daily – on homework is unacceptable (Math, English and Social Studies). My child is also taking a voluntary health class this summer and has that work as well. That should be more than enough! Thank you.

I was wondering if there is a school supply list for 9th grade at HSW — or should the students wait until the first day of their classes. I tried to contact the office but had no luck. If you could let me know I would certainly appreciate it very much.

A. There is a basic supply list for all high school students at: https://www.shenet.org/school-supplies/high-school-supply-list/. Most of your classes will give a supply list that first week.

Is the district going to start looking at giving out tickets for graduation in future years as the classes are starting to grow? I have been to the 2016 and now the 2018 graduations and both times have been record breaking years. I was two hours early to find just 4 seats for my family and even left my other children home because I knew it was going to be hard to find seats. I was fighting for seats just for myself and husband to see OUR child graduate and there were people taping off WHOLE sections and rows for aunts, uncles, young cousins, and grandparents to see their child graduate. There were actual fights with people because of this. There should be rules with graduation about this and the school needs to place guidelines about this. Some parents had to sit on the lawn because of rude people taking 10 to 20 seats at a time. I told my family if they were coming they would sit on the lawn because I was not taking parent seats. Something really needs to be done!

A. There are currently no plans to require tickets for graduation.

I think that the fourth quarter grades should be posted before teachers go on summer break. My experience with my three children is that the teachers sometimes make mistakes with grading (for example, maybe a missing assignment that wasn’t missing). During the school year these errors can easily be rectified, but most teachers don’t reply to emails during summer and I doubt they will be able to recall or have record of an assignment in the fall.

A. We do not post grades before the quarter ends.

The school website says 804 students would be graduating this year making it the largest class in Shen history. At the graduation it was stated that 783 students would be graduating, this is also the number in the newspapers. How many students of the class of 2018 actually graduated.

Written by on July 31, 2018 in Grapevine

A. We apologize for the mistake. The actual size of the graduating class was 771, making it the third largest graduating class behind 2015 and 2016 which were tied at 779.

If a student and their family decide that online schooling is a better fit for them, does Shen have or support any programs for online school? Also, do they have any options or programs for partial public/partial online schooling, where a student comes to school for certain classes or only certain days. Thank you.
