There has been recent discussion of an upcoming drug testing of an athletic team upon team finalization. I was seeking insight on whether this was something likely to happen or not, and if varsity athletic teams are allowed to drug test players. Thank you.

I don’t understand. Previously you had said you did receive an IP address and then you said you didn’t. Then you said that you got a MAC address. What is true? Is this completely anonymous?

A. The system used for the old website provided an IP address. This website uses WordPress which does not. So it is anonymous. However…it could probably be traced by law enforcement if the need arose.

When retaking a Regents Exam, will all attempts (scores) show on the student’s transcript, or only the highest? In other words, if a student scores lower than before, will that score appear on the transcript? Thanks in advance!

A.  Updates will be done during the 1st week of September.

In CIM, apparently, only 50% of students end up with college credit on the PLTW exam. This year most people did poorly. The students who did poorly didn’t really know the material. Many, if not all, students were behind at some point during the year. As a result, many did not receive the college credit. When explaining our scores, our teacher used the 50% statistic to rationalize the fact why many of us failed the exam. With this mindset, he only has to teach 50% of us. Only 50% of us need to be able to get the college credit to make it look like we were taught. The other 50% could be barely passing throughout the year and fail the PLTW exam. With this mindset, only 50% of us need to be taught. What happens to the other 50%? I don’t believe that this mindset is fair.

Why do some Stillwater school buses have cameras on the side of the bus, but Shen’s do not? Seems like a good safety measure. Thanks!

Written by on July 31, 2018 in Grapevine

A.  Stillwater may have added a camera to the side in anticipation of the Stop Arm Camera Bill being passed by the State Legislature. Unfortunately, the Stop Arm Camera Bill was not passed. If the bill eventually becomes law, we will also add side mounted cameras to our school buses.

What can I do to access my grades (meaning each assignment from every class) from the 17-18 school year? I just checked on the portal and it is changed to the 18-19 school year. I MUST see my grades for a certain class, as there was an issue since I had first seen them on June 30th. Who should I contact?

A. You should contact your school.

If I do a fall sport and still want to take drivers ed in the fall can I take it on the weekends? How does that work?

Written by on July 31, 2018 in Grapevine

A.  The Driver Ed program (fall & spring) offers Saturday as an option for class and drive-time. However, it may still conflict with participation in a sport. Make sure that you check with your coach. More information regarding the Driver Ed Fall 2018  will be posted in early August. https://sites.google.com/a/shenschools.org/community-services/community-education/driver-s-education

Why is an administrator allowed to ensure students their problems, secrets, issues, are safe between the student and them, when in reality they inform the students parents about the whole situation? It’s outrages and I would like to get a real answer

Written by on July 31, 2018 in Grapevine

A. Students they can always talk to an administrator.  However, if there is a safety concern, they will reach out to parents.

Hi, I was wondering who I should contact about the amount of Summer homework many children have? It seems if you are in HS and in accelerated or honors classes, you get punished over the summer. The amount of time spent – daily – on homework is unacceptable (Math, English and Social Studies). My child is also taking a voluntary health class this summer and has that work as well. That should be more than enough! Thank you.
