A No. Based on the Governor’s declaration: GOVERNOR CUOMO SIGNS EXECUTIVE ORDER CLOSING SCHOOLS STATEWIDE FOR TWO WEEKS, 180-Day Instructional Requirement Temporarily Waived.  Schools that exceed the closure period without state authorization will not be exempted from the 180-day rule.

Will school be open this summer to make up for the lost education during this crisis? Also, paying teachers should not be a concern, as they are being paid right now, not to work. I don’t understand why we would pay them for the summer as well. It’s a make-up of lost time.

A. There are no plans at this point other than regular summer school. As part of the Governor’s declaration: School districts will be required to develop a plan for alternative instructional options, including distance learning.
