I am a 7th grader at Gowana and I have a suggestion i have been realizing a lot lately that many students have lost their agenda, used the chromebooks instead, or simply don’t use one at all. I was thinking instead of spreading all that money for supplying students with agendas that we could used the money to get Air Conditioning in the middle schools. Many of the classrooms get very hot that could cause to health issues. or instead of air conditioning we could supply the 7th graders with better chromebooks since they do not work very well. Just a suggestion but it would be great if you could reply!! Thanks
A. Unfortunately, retrofitting the infrastructure necessary for air conditioning as well as running the air conditioning annually would cost millions of dollars more than what is spent on agendas.
Why do you want to put wifi on the school buses? Who needs it? Did you survey the students? How many said that they would like to do homework on the bus but can’t do it without wifi? The bus ride is too loud, too shaky, and too short to do homework. So who requested this?
A. That is just an added benefit. Wifi is being added to buses to improve security and communications for bus drivers.
Who uses the greenhouse? Like what’s it for? I can water the plants if they need help.
A. The greenhouse is used mainly by High School East’s Environmental Science courses. Students grow plants from seed in soil in a NFT hydroponics system. They record and analyze data on the growth of their plants and learn about the specific needs of various types of plants.
My daughter will be a senior next year and due to a late year birthday she’ll be taking her drivers test during the summer. Is this going to impact her applying for a parking spot for senior privileges? I would hope not as the school can’t exclude kids who get their licenses over the summer. Please explain. Thanks!
A. She can apply for senior privileges but she cannot drive until she gets her license.
Why doesn’t the school do after prom parties like other schools?
A. We used to but they were stopped due to low attendance.
Why doesn’t Shen crack down on Juniors illegally driving to school? Are you aware that some Juniors find willing Seniors that do not drive and register the Junior’s car in their name for a parking pass? Why can’t Shen require the Senior’s guardian to attest (with penalties) to their car registrations? Seems like and easy deterrent.
A. We are aware at times that Juniors attempt to park illegally. We monitor the lot, address these issues, and discipline students as warranted on a regular basis. Hi, Im a proud Shen mom and have been very involved in my children’s academic lives. I’ve heard through some other various concerned parents, that there will be a personal laptop device given to all students in the coming school year. I would just like to say, I’ve done my own research on these google chromebook devices that my children have told me they use in the classroom. After some digging, I discovered starting prices of chromebooks for schools are $149! If we estimate that there is 3200 students in the high school level, and multiply that by 149 we get nearly half a million dollars!!!! This is horrifying, I am truly disgusted with the schools incompetence on how to spend money. This will definitely be brought up at the next Board meeting by me and my girls!
A. If you research the price of textbooks and you will understand just one of the many benefits of Chromebooks.
Why do we have to spend so much money on caps and gown when we aren’t even allowed to keep them?
A. You are paying to rent them.
Is the same set of buses used 3 times in the morning to transport students to school? (to high school, then elementary school, then other elementary or middle school)
A. The bus routing system is much more complicated than that.
How would I join the NHS in HS?
