Why are weighted grades not used for determining Green Award recipients? I personally take very challenging courses and unfortunately my grades have dropped a little bit due to them. It’s not fair for another student taking all regular courses and getting 100s in them to get the GPA award and not me, when I am taking some the hardest classes offered in the high school and would easily qualify for the award if weighted grades were used.
A. Weighted grades are used. However, we do not round grades.
Hi I really need an answer to this so please choose to answer this! I am in middle school and got a referral for a unfair reason and I was threatened that it will “stay on my permanent record”. So i’m wondering if colleges will see this middle school referral and if my life is ruined because i was being a kid for once in my life.
A. Colleges do not see referrals. Your discipline records are confidential, protected under the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act.
Why don’t teachers and monitors get in trouble for swearing? Are they allowed to say whatever they want to students? Maybe they don’t know its unprofessional or maybe they don’t know how to act appropriately. Either way they should know how to act respectfully or be trained on how to act around students. (I don’t know if there is a rule against administration swearing at students but there should be)
A. No staff members should be swearing around children. Swearing is a bad habit, once learned it is hard to stop. That is why it is better if you don’t start.
I’m going to ask for the 2nd time: Is there a reason that styrofoam trays are used in the school cafeterias? When I was in elementary school, we always used reusable plastic lunch trays that were just washed after lunch every day, which is a lot less wasteful and a lot better for the environment. Based on the research I’ve done, it seems that it would ultimately be cheaper to have reusable lunch trays. Even if it wasn’t, does the school really care that much about having a few extra dollars than saving the environment? How about instead of spending money on electronic signs and 100% unnecessary chromebooks, we spend a few extra dollars to help out the environment?
A. The food Service department is self-sufficient and does not get any money from the taxpayers. Biodegradable trays are very expensive and the department does not have the resources to wash and reuse trays anymore. Please call the food service department with any questions.
What’s the game plan for Chromebook use in the middle schools. There seems to be inconsistencies between different grades and different teachers?
A. Students have been assigned Chromebooks in support of their learning. Chromebooks are very useful to access online content, submit work, collaborate with other students, and organize and track assignments. Why does the white gym have no water fountain?
A. It was disconnected to avoid damage to the gym floor and a safety risk when wet, plus it was rarely being used. Students are allowed access to nearby fountains.
Do the elementary schools have guidelines they could share with families regarding recess decisions? My child attends Skano and they seem to be inside more than outside. Skano / Tesago were the only elementary buildings (2 out of 8) to stay in due to heat. Skano was outside in pouring rain, but, inside due to wetness and mud? It’s 15 minutes!
A. There are district guidelines regarding the appropriate temperature for outdoor recess. Our School Physician has recommended that outside recess be canceled on days when the air temperature/wind chill factor is 20 degrees. Why are students not allowed to stand in the library in the morning? We are always being told to go find a seat even when we need to ask our friend for help on the homework.
A. We need to maintain an academic environment in the library. When there are no more seats available we are at capacity. If the library is full there is seating in the cafeteria available before homeroom.
A question was recently posted asking for a list of all of the gender identities taught to Shen students. The response given by the district failed to list these identities. Please provide this list, as well as informing parents at what age this information is taught.
