My daughter was told she was going to get detention because she said to her friend Merry Christmas who celebrates Christmas. A staff member over heard and said it may offend the other children. How is this fair and right?

A. Without knowing the specific circumstances, there is no policy against saying Merry Christmas and students do not get detention for saying it.

When calculating one’s GPA for the year, are one-semester (half year) classes weighted the same as two-semester (full year) classes?

A. Semester courses count half of full semester courses.  Same as A or B day only courses, they count half as well. 

Is the overall average on the quarterly report cards weighted?

A. No. Weighted grades are only for class rank.

I know numerous students who are trying to get into 6th grade math honors. Is it possible to switch halfway through the year? If yes, what are the requirements?

A.  It is not possible to make the change at this point.  In most cases, these sections are full.  Students are placed in Math 6 Honors based on multiple criteria including grades, NYS assessment scores (if taken), common assessments, and quantitative CoGAT scores.   Students may be recommended for Math 7 Honors at the end of […]
