Yesterday my daughters’ teacher was absent and there was no sub. They had to split their class into the other 2 3rd grade classes. Is 35 kids in one classroom for the day against fire code? They didn’t have desks and had to work on the floor? This is a major safety co concern.

A. While it is not an ideal learning environment, it is not a fire code issue. Clearly, the goal is to always have a substitute for each teacher absent. While there is a substitute shortage, we will continue to make the best of each situation.

Here’s an idea: How about instead of teaching girls to cover up their bodies because it might distract boys, teach boys to be decent human beings and control themselves. If someone in the school can’t handle seeing a bra strap or a belly button without freaking out, that is their own fault. Dress codes teach underage girls that their bodies are inherently sexual, and that rather than wearing what is comfortable for them (especially when it’s hot outside), they should cover up so as not to disrupt the learning process of some out of control teenage boys. I am sixteen years old. The sexualization of my body isn’t my fault. It’s the fault of whoever failed to teach these people to be respectful and decent to women. Just a thought as we head into the summer season.

A. Keep in  mind that boy’s undergarments are not allowed r to show and they have to wear shirts to cover their body as well. Boys would also not be allowed to wear really short shorts either.

My daughter along with several of her friends received an email from the principal saying that if they missed 5 days of school during the year they can not attend the junior prom. Why as a parent did I not receive this message? Is it true?

Written by on April 18, 2019

A. There are minimum guidelines for attending extracurricular activities. Should your child have a question they should see their Class Assistant Principal to work out a plan to attend the prom.

Can the HSE testing room be open before and/or after school? I don’t have any free periods to take tests during the day.

A. We only have the staffing to have it open during the school day.

Hi! I have a concern about the parking situation. So, I have two period late arrival as a senior and I have a parking pass that I paid for. I used to be able to come to school around 9:20 and park on the tree line or truck row, but recently I have had to come into school at 8:35 just to get a parking spot. Today I came to school at 8:45 and I took the last spot on the tree row and the entire parking lot was filled with students cars, even the teacher lot. I have noticed a lot a juniors have been parking in the parking lot recently and seniors who do not have parking passes. It makes me (and my friends who also have parking passes and late arrival) upset because we have worked very hard throughout high school in order to earn the privilege to park at school and we have paid for a parking spot, so it is unfair that juniors and seniors who have not earned the privileges can take parking spots so I have to give up my privilege. Is there any way the school can start towing cars who do not have a proper parking pass again? I have tried talking to the man who is supposed to take care of the cars that are parked without passes, but he only puts a warning and the people still park anyway. I also have brought in licence plate numbers, but the cars still continue to park. Thank you for reading!

A. Parking continues to be addressed by HS staff. Last year, vehicles were in fact towed and that can occur again if guidelines are not adhered to.

Why did the SHED ¨ban¨ me from obtaining a loaner for the whole month of march? Other students have had this happen to them as well, in every grade level at HSE. I would like to see the purpose and the goal the SHED is trying to reach by doing this futile decision that will not even come close to resolving the issue many students have with their chromebooks. I would appreciate it greatly if this was not ignored.

Written by on April 18, 2019

A. The SHED operates to assist students and staff with any problems they encounter with their chromebooks including damage or malfunction. The SHED has been very successful this year, servicing over 8,000 visits so far already. The loaners available in the SHED are meant to available to students and staff when they have a damaged […]
