The Shenendehowa Board of Education has approved the tax levy for the 2022-23 school year.

The True Value Tax Rate per thousand is $14.60, a 10.16% decrease. This is lower than projected at the time of the budget (it was estimated that it would be $16.12 or a 0.7742% decrease).

The breakdown for the individual towns after equalization rates are applied is as follows:

  • Clifton Park, $31.73, a 0.39% decrease

  • Halfmoon, $30.72, a 3.44% increase

  • Malta, $14.59, a 10.17% decrease

  • Waterford, $17.37, a 0.45% decrease

  • Ballston, $19.14, a 0.65% increase

  • Stillwater, $19.21, a 1.69% increase

In New York State, each municipality determines its own level of property assessments (this is in contrast to most states that require one level of assessment statewide). In order to distribute school district taxes among multiple municipalities, New York State requires that the level of assessment of each municipality be equalized to full market value. Once the full market value of each municipality is determined, the school district or county can determine how much in taxes should be collected from each municipality. If all municipalities assessed property at 100% of market value, equalization rates would not be necessary.
