11/30/21 – Where should I park when picking up my child at HSW between 2:30-2:40pm? – Parent

A. Being that HSW dismissal is at 2:35pm, if a parent/guardian is looking to pick up their child prior to this time, they are to have their child drop off a note to the Attendance Office indicating the time they are to be picked up.  In these instances, parents/guardians can park their car in the […]

11/29/21 – Why is the TI CONNECT CE App blocked on the chrome web store for chromebooks? Is it against the rules of Shen to have useful programs on your calculator? – Student

A. IMS had to remove the TI Connect CE App because we had a temporary license during the COVID-19 shutdown but we didn’t have it after June.

11/18/21 – Hi, I was wondering why the high school lunches are being switched to three forty minute lunches. There will be way more people in each lunch than there is currently and that’s doesn’t seem safe in terms of COVID spread. Also it takes so long to get through the lunch line already and this will just make it even longer. I remember when I was a freshman and sophomore we had the period schedule and there was always four lunches because of the amount of kids in each lunch. So why, during covid times, are we packing more kids into the cafeteria when we don’t have enough space currently with the four lunches. Also, the overlapping time is really helpful for meeting with teachers if you have an adjacent lunch to theirs and you don’t have any other time to ask them questions or meet with them. Please reconsider having three lunches and keep the four lunches! Thank you. – Student

A. It is because of the overlapping lunches. When we had 4 – 40min lunches during the 120 min block 3 we ended up with a total of 40 min that saw 50% of the students in lunch at a given time. With the change we never see more than 33% of the school eating lunch […]

11/15/21 – Why did Pixlr get blocked? Some people use it for class assignments. – Student

A. Pixlr was removed due to the company’s refusal to sign an EdLaw 2d compliance statement. Without it, we had no control over our student’s data and the company advertises that it collects personal data and sells it to 3rd party partners.

11/15/21 – Hello. Many students including myself recently learned of a program that allows teachers to view the screens of students’ chromebooks from their desks to make sure they are doing their work. While I personally have no problem with this inside of school, can the application be used on the students outside of school, and can the application access the webcam of students’ chromebooks? Thank you. – Student

A. It is true that we’ve deployed software to better equip our teaching staff with a means of keeping students focused on classwork during the school day. This software cannot leverage a device’s webcam regardless of whether it is a district issued or privately owned device. We have also put limitations in that automatically end all sessions at […]

11/8/21 – Why do some sports charge admission for regular season games, does the school keep that money? – Community Member

A. Some sports charge due to the number of people that are needed to provide chaperone coverage for those events. All gate receipts go to the general fund.

11/8/21 – Shen should add a UK flag to the Flag collection in HSE. – Student

A. The flags have represented students that have attended Shenendehowa.

11/8/21 – The voluntary testing for COVID,of the unvaccinated children, what chemicals are in the swabs used for the test? – Kelly Rysedorph – Parent

11/8/21 – Please find a better way to keep parents out of the student parking lot. There are far too many of them at the end of the day and the overcrowding makes trying to get out of the lot as a student extremely stressful and borderline dangerous. They should not be allowed into the parking lot when not even half of our grade can get a pass to park in there. They can use the circle like everyone else. – Student

A. Campus security monitors the situation daily.
