A. New York State requires 180 days of instruction. This year, the elementary schools have 183 days of scheduled instruction, so they have three “emergency” days built into the schedule.  The secondary schools (gr. 6-12) have 185 days of scheduled instruction, so they have five “emergency” days built into the schedule. To date, the district has closed school on three days due to snow. The 180 day is a requirement by New York State, a school district that uses too many emergency days has to adjust its calendar to meet that requirement by either extending the end of the school year or using April break.
