I, as a taxpayer, parent, and employee of the district, am not interested in where someone attended college. I am far more interested in what they’ve done since then and what involvement they have in the town and community, i.e., PTA board member, community volunteering, personal experience within Shen. Going forward perhaps allow for 4 or 5 questions on significant topics affecting our students and community and have that in their bio’s as well. I know that my views, based on my personal and professional life experience has changed significantly since my college years. I also would like to encourage all the candidates to be sure to include support staff in your discussions and decision-making. They are an integral part of our students’ educations.
May 14th, 2021 by kelly.defecianiA. It is up to the candidate to campaign and communicate their positions with their potential constituents to serve on the Board of Education. The district is not obligated to provide any information on a candidate apart from name. For the past 30 years, Shenendehowa has used a standardized bio for every candidate that is verifiable, consistent and not subject to interpretation.
I saw a question about moving your google data to a normal gmail account before changing districts, does this also work if you’re going to graduate from Shen and want to preserve your data?
May 3rd, 2021 by kelly.defecianiA. This feature is enabled for seniors in May of each year. Before that, requests to migrate files to a personal account can be made through a helpdesk ticket with IMS.
The Board agenda for the special board meeting on April 21, 2021 states that the board meeting video will be posted the next day. It’s now April 26, and the board meeting video is still not posted on the Youtube channel. Additionally, the agenda did not include a link so that the public could watch the meeting as it was underway. Why was the public not able to watch the meeting as it was being held? Also, why is the video still not accessible for the public to view?

In the original calendar for 2020-2021, Monday June 21 was a holiday for the observance of Juneteenth. In the revised calendar, it is not. According to NYSED’s website, June 18th is the day for observance (i.e. no Regents exams given that day.) Can you please clarify which day Shenendehowa students will be off in observance of Juneteenth?
April 16th, 2021 by lindsay.valentiA. Technically, the law does not go into effect until June 2022. The NYSED Testing schedule was developed to provide school districts the “option” of recognizing the day this year, if they had enough days in the calendar (meeting the 180 day NYSED Requirement). We will be analyzing our school calendar days utilization, recognizing we used several days in the beginning of the year to plan and prepare for a smooth opening of school. If it is feasible, we will decide and communicate with the public in the coming week, by May 1. The calendar developed and approved for the 2021-2022 School Year has Juneteenth built in pursuant to NYS Law. If it is feasible to do so, the BOE would need to approve the modification to the calendar.
Where does Shen get its stuffed shells? I love those.

What is the plan for the 2021 Graduation ceremony?

At this time, the district is working diligently on graduation plans for the Class of 2021 which is scheduled as it stands now for Friday, June 25. As we finalize details for the event, information will be shared with our entire Shen community.

Q: Who is entitled to have support from a classroom aide at the elementary level? I have concerns and feel this needs to be addressed by the district moving forward. We all work under the same STA contract.
March 11th, 2021 by lindsay.valentiA. While this is a personnel issue, it does not address a specific person. The individual who wrote the correspondence should contact the Asst. Supt. of Human Resources to provide specifics for their concerns.
As a graduate, who do I contact for a transcript without access to the portal?
