What are the guidelines for Shen employees using Twitter? Does anyone monitor what is posted? There was a post on the Shen athletic page that probably shouldn’t have been posted.

A. According to BOE policy 3145, the district/school/classroom internet-based communications must relate to curriculum or instructional matters, school authorized activities, or general information of interest to the public pertaining to the District or its schools.  With that being said, the conversational nature of social media at times can make things more complicated and we have had situations where the district has asked that something be taken down or clarified.

In the case of the Tweet related to anonymous complaints, the matter was addressed and the Tweet was taken down. Some of reaction by the public and the frustration displayed by the representative of the athletic department, speaks to the need for all of us to be mindful of the larger purpose of modeling proper decorum for our students. The district has been and will continue to be open to hear from the community, that is why the Grapevine was created.
