I just went to pay my tax bill online and find it interesting that it will cost me 3% , plus a one time fee of $0.50 to do so. It costs me less to pay my bill a month late with a 2% penalty than it does to pay on time on line. Why exactly is that? Afterall I am saving everyone time, paper, gasoline and money transferring the funds rather than doing it in person.

A.  We offer the option of paying taxes by credit card as convenience to our taxpayers. However, the credit card companies assess a fee to those who use this option. The fee is not paid to the district, it is paid directly to the credit card company.
