Is there a cap on how many kids at this district can be classified as having disabilities? It seems very difficult to get any assistance for kids that need it at this district. What’s going on?

A.  In order for a student to be identified as having a learning disability, the student must first receive systematic, targeted interventions to remediate specific academic skill deficits (Response to Intervention-RTI). Once appropriate interventions have been tried and a student continues to demonstrate academic gaps, the student must undergo a full evaluation by the Committee on Special Education to determine whether or not there is a learning disability. If you believe your child may have a learning disability please contact your child’s principal, school psychologist, or special education academic administration.
